Steel

Alloy 
Alloy wheels are more expensive than steel wheels, but they can be counted on for fuel efficiency. They are lighter compared to steel wheels and are ideal for city driving. Alloy offers better gas mileage, handling, and better acceleration. It can add both style and function to your vehicle. However, alloy wheels are prone to cracking and bending, which is a worthwhile trade-off given the above advantages.

There are two primary ways to manufacture wheels: cast or forged. Let us find out how they are different. 

Casted
Casted wheels are manufactured by pouring molten aluminum into a wheel-shaped mold. Once it cools, it is removed from the mold for the finishing touches. The wheel can be trimmed, cleaned, or drilled out for mounting. Casting is a quick process that can be less expensive for both the manufacturer and the buyer. 

Forged 
On the other hand, a forged wheel is made by shaping a solid block of billet aluminum, shaped into a wheel, and pressurized for added strength before it is loaded into a machine for final wheel design. Compared to their casted counterparts, forged wheels are lighter and stronger. 

Carbon Fiber 
Carbon fiber wheels are exotic options on the market, but it does not make sense for most people. These wheels are available and come factory on certain cars. However, they are very expensive because they are handmade. However, Carbon fiber wheels are not designed to withstand daily driving. 

Two-piece Wheels 
Two-piece wheels are designed with a centerpiece spoke and a rim. They can be made with cast aluminum, billet, or the center completely forged. Two-piece wheels can either be welded or bolted to the barrel of the rim. 
Three-piece Wheels 

Three-piece wheels come with a centerpiece and two separate rim halves. They can be customized and can solve particular issues in the fitment. Three-piece wheels work perfectly on high-end sports cars.
