When pondering over the best type of light you can have at home, natural light still outweighs artificial light. Allowing natural light to illuminate your house has many benefits. Not only can it save energy, but it can also stimulate vitamin D production in our bodies and influence academic performance. However, most homes cannot accommodate very much natural light. Good thing there are some ways to brighten your home with natural light: Wash Your Windows Regularly
The most basic way to add more sunlight is to clean both sides of your windows. As they are the primary gateway of natural light, keeping them clean will ensure a brighter home. Trim the Trees Naturally, sunlight will not enter your home when there are obstructing your windows and doors like trees and shrubs. However, it’s inadvisable to cut down those obstructions but only trim the branches in the windows' way. Pick the Right Color Choose a color that will reflect the natural light instead of absorbing it. White is your best bet as it dramatically reflects sunlight. You can also opt to choose light colors if you don’t like coloring your interiors white. As an added tip, you can paint your ceiling the same color as your walls but a few shades lighter. This way, the rooms in your house will feel more extensive and the ceilings higher. Change your Flooring People would turn a blind eye towards floors as they think it would not help bring in natural light. However, they thought wrong; floors are equally crucial in inviting more natural light in your home. Like the walls and ceiling, pick a lighter color for your flooring. If not, you can install any flooring but with a polished finish. Put Skylights One of the best ways to add more natural light to your home is to put skylights. Often called “windows of the roof,” skylights bring more sunlight than any other type of window. Unlike regular windows, any objects placed on the ceiling should not block the skylights. Final Words We frequently take for granted the resources we have around us, especially those naturally occurring. We need to maximize them, especially sunlight, as they can immensely improve our daily lives. Moreover, we can’t take for granted how we can protect our homes from untoward incidents. It is very advantageous to protect your home with homeowners insurance before it's too late. Thanks for pointing out that skylights can add natural light to our home. My husband and I want to improve our bungalow house before our parents come to visit in March. We are hoping to find contractors on Monday who can install a skylight within one week at an affordable rate.

It's great that you explained that skylights are one of the best ways to add more natural light to your home. I want my master bathroom to have more natural light, but it is on the side of my home. It seems like a skylight would be a good idea so that I don't have to put a window in the bathroom.

The segment of your article that talked about what skylights are was really interesting. Having "windows" on our roof that can let in natural light sounds like an amazing way to make this place feel loftier and brighter rather than have it be dark and gloomy all the time. I'll look around for any roofers that can help me get some of those installed as soon as possible.

It got me when you suggested adding skylights to our home, because it will bring in more sunlight compared to any type of window out there. I will suggest this to my husband if we can add one in the living room. It's what we need to make that area of the house seem livelier, because it is facing south which is why it does not receive that much natural light.
